Coming Out on “Umoja” 12/26/23
Message From the Author
I felt the need to write this book to spread the spirit of Umoja (an African word for unity). Growing up, I witnessed horrific interracial violence, racism, bigotry, and prejudice, typically based on ignorance. I would prefer if my children did not grow up in such a world, but unfortunately, it does not seem to be the case today. I know writing this book won't erase racism, prejudice, or bigotry. Still, at the very least, it can give society a realistic portrayal of black history and the non-black members who helped African Americans gain their freedoms, civil rights, and liberties.
Throughout my studies, I have learned, read, and researched remarkable black people I grew to love, respect, and admire. These people became my heroes. It wasn't until I reached adulthood that I decided to read and research white people who fought against slavery and fought for freedom and justice for all. I have come to truly respect, admire, and love these truly wonderful white people who genuinely deserve the title of heroes. Yes, the people in my book and many others are "White Heroes in Black History" and deserve to be remembered and have their stories told. Who better to tell to their stories than a black mom born and raised in Brooklyn, New York?
Look out for "White Heroes in Black History" on 12/26/2023!
